Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine – Steampunk Takeover

Did you know that about 72 tonnes of gold was discovered in Walhalla?
That’s almost as heavy as 30 grand pianos!

Head underground and enjoy the ultimate Walhalla experience. The Walhalla Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine began operation in 1865. The mine extends over 1,120 metres underground, and was one of the most prosperous in Australian history.

The mine was closed in 1911 and today is a chance for visitors to experience the history of Walhalla. Tour deep under the mountain and learn about the hard lives of miners. See the real, original workings of early miners, their lunchrooms, equipment and much more.

Mine tours will be running all weekend at Steampunk Gala in Walhalla departing from the opening of the mine at the northern end of town. Your ticket price includes all entertainment, including a chance to experience the life of a miner, and learn about the incredible history the town has to offer.

For those of you looking to enjoy the Walhalla Goldfields Railway there is also a horse and carriage (or a motorised coach) to help you travel around the town, (if you want to indulge in any time travel, its bring your own!).
