Darnum is a small, country town that offers not only incredible country hospitality but the beautiful surroundings to match. The perfect location to stop, relax and enjoy the town, Darnum’s proximity to the highway makes it simple to find and even more tempting to stop.

Darnum is the local indigenous word for “parrot” so if you happen to be lucky enough to see a few in town, consider it a sign that you are sharing a part of this small town’s history.

If you’re coming from Melbourne, you will enjoy a hassle-free drive with no traffic lights once you leave the city, reaching Darnum shortly after passing Warragul. The drive should take you about an hour and fifteen minutes.

Darnum is only a short ten-minute drive from both our region’s largest town Warragul and the shopping village and cultural hub of Yarragon, two of our favourite locations to enjoy the food and wineshop till you drop or discover your own experience in Baw Baw.

For those of you looking to get out and explore nature in our beautiful region, we cannot recommend Mount Worth State Park highly enough. Mount Worth State Park protects a remnant of the forests that once covered the western Strzelecki Ranges. It is a stunning, peaceful location and one of Baw Baw’s greatest hidden gems. It has a range of walking tracks to suit all fitness levels and makes a great spot to take a picnic.

And a little tip from us, a must stop when in Darnum (or traveling through) is the local pub, the Darnum Hotel, fully licensed and family friendly it’s a great spot for lunch or dinner.
