Rokeby is a vibrant little town located just over an hour from Melbourne, it is a wonderful place to visit while exploring our region, particularly for those who have an appreciation for the beauty and wonder of nature.
For those who are looking to explore Rokeby’s beautiful natural environment, the Rokeby Crossover Rail Trail is part of the original Warragul to Noojee rail line and passes through the Crossover Regional Park to Neerim South. Highlights along the trail include the trestle bridge at Crossover and views of Tarago Reservoir, Bunyip State Forest and Mount Baw Baw.
Nangara Reserve is also worth a visit. This 14-hectare nature park, formerly a quarry is located in Jindivick, a short 10-minute drive from Rokeby. The reserve offers various short walking tracks (some steep sections) that feature art installations, interpretive signage and access to the Bunyip State Park. Indigenous culture is an important feature of the reserve and the local area.
For those looking to get their hands on some of our incredible local produce the popular Rokeby Market, home to over 100 stalls featuring plants, craft, and local produce and is one of Victoria’s longest-running markets.
After you finish enjoying the outdoor environment why not pay a visit to the Red Tree Gallery, with local artist Laurie Collins. Recycled metal sculptures, garden sculptures, junk sculptures, unique furniture, fun metal animals, and lots of other ‘stuff’ are the sort of things Laurie creates, his sculpture garden is delightful and a must see for everyone. There are also many more artists hidden in the lush green hills of Baw Baw waiting to share their passions and their work with all of you.
