Thorpdale is the gateway to the Strzelecki Ranges and can be found about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Melbourne. It’s surrounded by spectacular rural scenery and agricultural landscapes that create a colourful patchwork like impression. Known for its rich volcanic red soil, Thorpdale produces some of Australia’s best quality potatoes.

While you’re in Thorpdale take in the view at the Trafalgar South lookout and Henderson’s Gully. Picnic at the Narracan Falls with award-winning pies and artisan breads purchased from the Thorpdale Bakery.

You will also discover talented artists hidden in the hills of Thorpdale and surrounds so indulge your creative side while you are here, you never know what you may discover!

One of Thorpdale’s most popular events is the annual Thorpdale Potato Festival. The Thorpdale Potato Festival was established in the late 1970s as an annual event to celebrate the humble spud, highlighting the skills of the potato pickers of the time as well as a community fundraiser for the small farming town of Thorpdale. Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, Thorpdale is a major supplier of brushed potatoes to Australia from January-June. Our fertile soil produces the world’s best produce – the most versatile vegetable!

Thorpdale also offers you the chance to take some produce home with you, The Little Green Shed in Thorpdale offers a farmgate experience for visitors to purchase some seasonal local produce direct from the farm and take it home to be enjoyed.
